John Cadogan

Professor Sir John Ivan George Cadogan CBE DSc FRSE FRSC PLSW FRS (born 1930) is a British scientist, whose speciality is in organic chemistry.

Sir John was born in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire. He was educated at the Bishop Gore School, Swansea, and did his first research at King's College London[1], under Donald Hey FRS.

He has received numerous accolades for his work during the course of his career, which has spanned the following posts: Director General of the Research Councils; Purdie Professor of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews; Forbes Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh; Chief Scientist at the BP Research Centre; Director of Research for BP; Visiting Professor of Chemistry at Imperial College, London; and Professorial Fellow at Swansea University.[2]

He is a Founding Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and in February 2010 was elected its inaugural President and Chair of Council.
